JISE 2021, Shanghai:Take a closer look at educational trends

In the post-epidemic era, international schools in Shanghai are once again full of vitality – teachers and students are laughing and chatting, and various activities are being carried out again. However, COVID-19 has really changed our lives: teachers were forced to take online education, parents struggled to decide their kids’ educational path, and kids felt upset staying at home all day long… The old model has been torn down, and education is in the midst of a revolution.

On March 21, the Jingkids International School Expo 2021 (Shanghai) at the St. Regis Shanghai Jing’an attracted more than 2000 parents to come to the scene. With the theme “Education in Changing Age”, this year, JISE provided parents the opportunity to communicate with their dream schools, offered some ideas for future educational planning, as well as helped them adapt to the new pace of international education.

Attending international schools and institutions gave parents more choices

JISE aims to help international and Chinese families living in Shanghai find the high-quality global education that they require for their children.

Adhering to the concept of “choosing an appropriate school is to choose one that suits your child” , JISE was attended by 33 well-known Shanghai international and bilingual schools and kindergartens. Parents of children of all ages had the opportunity to meet many of their dream schools in one go and obtain first-hand information about potential schools. It is worth mentioning that The Expatriate Center and the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai participated in JISE for the first time, bringing the most cutting-edge community information to the international families present.

This time, collaborating with Shanghai Liben Design office, JISE brought an interactive game “Cool Facts About International Schools” to the audience. The family who guessed correctly received gift packages from participating schools. The game made the exhibition a more relaxed and happier one for attending families.

Education forums resolved parents’ confusion

Parents’ Workshops made the audience experience campus life again

The three educational forums covering topics from early years to high school attracted active participation from parents.

What are the new practices of international schools in Shanghai? How does preschool education strike a balance between respecting children’s nature and obeying rules? What is the journey of parents who send their children to an international school? What should families hesitating between public schools and international schools do? JISE invited principals, international education experts, and parents whose children are studying at international schools to answer these questions and give advice on how to plan their children’s future through the Principal Forum, Early Years Forum, and Parent Forum. Through the three in-depth forums, parents had a more comprehensive thinking about future development of international education and also made more preparations for the rapidly changing future.

▼Parents’ Workshop

This is the first time that JISE has launched parents’ workshops. Shanghai Liaoyuan Bilingual School and Yew Chung International School of Shanghai (YCIS) respectively brought the IB PYP Workshop and the University Guidance Workshop to the audience. In these two workshops, primary school and kindergarten parents became IB PYP students and experienced how IB students learn through exploration.

Meanwhile, parents of senior students examined the application materials from a top university admissions officer’s view. On giving an “offer” to a student, they also understood what factors determine an applicant’s acceptance into their dream school.

The site selection, booth arrangement and content arrangement of JISE Shanghai were all well thought out. Volunteers, information desk arrangements and the detailed information on the Visitors’ Guide provided a comfortable experience for parents. To ensure the safety of everyone attending the meeting, visitors were required to wear a mask and take a temperature check. At the same time, hand sanitizers and disinfecting alcohol were placed throughout the exhibition. The onsite-issued Jingkids School Choice Guide Shanghai 2021-2022 acted as a supplementary material for JISE to ensure that parents can obtain the latest, most accurate and most authoritative school information in the city.

The JingKids International School Expo 2021 (Shanghai) has come to a successful conclusion. JingKids will continue to pay close attention to cutting-edge international education information, provide timely and accurate school information and Open Day activities for parents, and relay parents’ feedbacks, concerns and expectations to the schools. As an effective communication platform connecting both parties, JingKids will make continuous efforts in the future and live up to the expectations of parents, their children and the community as a whole!
